Join us on a hike tracing the paths of the last Ice Age and immerse yourself in the history of the beautiful island!

Your private guide will pick you up comfortably from your accommodation in Oulu and take you to the ferry harbor. During the drive, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the region and life in the North. The approximately 25-minute ferry ride to Hailuoto is perfect for taking first photos and offers initial glimpses of the unique coastal landscape.

Upon arrival on the island, after a brief transfer, we’ll begin our hike along the traces of the last Ice Age. Along the Hyypänmäki esker – the highest and oldest elevation in Hailuoto – you’ll enjoy a 5 km tour through ancient pine forests with a beautiful lichen-covered forest floor. Together with your guide, you’ll explore the geology and nature of the region and also learn about the darker aspects of Hailuoto’s history.

After the hike, we’ll head to the island’s western end, Marjaniemi. Here, you’ll dive into the island’s maritime history with a walk through the pilot station, to the lighthouse, and through the idyllic fishing village. You’ll then have the option to stroll along the beautiful sandy beach, take a refreshing dip in the Baltic Sea, or visit a restaurant, café, or the local brewery.

After this eventful day, we’ll bring you back comfortably to your accommodation in Oulu.

Note: Visits to restaurants, cafés, or breweries are subject to their opening hours, and we recommend making a reservation in advance—we’re happy to arrange this for you! Alternatively, you can order a snack package for a picnic on the beach as an additional service.
